Ruaha National Park

Venture into Ruaha National Park, an untouched wilderness where East Africa’s savannahs meet Southern Africa’s miombo woodlands. Named after the Hehe word for “river”, the Great Ruaha draws diverse wildlife, including Africa’s largest lion population, vast elephant herds, and the endangered wild dog.

Frequently Asked Questions

The wild speaks loudest between June and October. These are Ruaha’s dry months — the skies are clear, wildlife gathers near water, and each day unfurls under golden light. If you seek vibrant encounters and barefoot ease, this is the season to arrive. December to March brings the rains — lush, green, and poetic in their own way, though less ideal for wildlife viewing.

Ubuyu is best accessed by air. Daily scheduled flights operated by Coastal Aviation, Safari Air Link, and Auric Air arrive at Msembe Airstrip, just outside Ruaha National Park headquarters. From here, it’s a short game drive through the wilderness to reach the lodge.

Yes. While wild and remote, Ubuyu welcomes guests aged 14 and up. For families seeking connection — to each other and to the land — our spacious villas, hosted experiences, and flexible dining allow for moments of togetherness and stillness alike.

Think natural fabrics, earth tones, and clothes that breathe. Days are warm, nights cool — bring a layer for firelit evenings. We recommend comfortable walking shoes (or bare feet), sun protection, and a spirit open to presence.

Yes, though we invite you to leave your notifications behind. Ubuyu offers limited connectivity in villas and main areas — enough to check in, but not enough to be pulled away. Here, the strongest signal is found in silence, sky, and the call of the wild.
